Nothing seems real, only an organic construct of our thoughts and desires.

Nothing seems real, only an organic construct of our thoughts and desires.

It sounds like the boundary between reality and our interpretation of it has started to feel thin—as though thoughts and desires are doing all the constructing.

There’s an important distinction here: our experience of the world is shaped by our minds; that doesn’t establish that nothing exists independently of them. Desire can change what we notice and how we interpret it, while the world still surprises us, resists us, and contradicts our expectations.

In Mirror Observer Theory, this marks a limit worth keeping visible: a reflection can change the observer’s understanding without creating everything being observed. The loop is a proposed account of self-understanding, not evidence that reality is only thought.

If “nothing seems real” describes an unsettling feeling rather than just an idea, we don’t need to turn it into a theory right now. Feeling your feet against the floor, noticing nearby sounds, or talking with someone you trust can help you reconnect with your surroundings.

Is this primarily a philosophical conclusion, or does your surroundings—or your own self—actually feel distant or unreal right now?
